Harmen Bussemaker


Harmen Bussemaker is a Professor in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Systems Biology at Columbia University in the City of New York. Originally trained as a theoretical physicist at Utrecht University, he switched to computational genomics during a postdoc at the Rockefeller University, and has been working on problems in gene regulation ever since. He is a previous recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and a Lenfest Distinguished Columbia Faculty Award. He has co-organized the Cold Spring Harbor (CSHL) conference on Systems Biology, served as a judge for the Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists at the New York Academy of Sciences, and is a long-time organizer and instructor of the CSHL summer course on Statistical methods for Functional Genomics.
