Get ready for NWO Life2023!
We are proud to announce that we have added another great keynote speaker to the line-up of NWO Life2023, Tracy Bale! She joins the previously announced Frans de Waal in our programme. Keep reading if you would like to know more about the keynote speakers, the overarching theme and important dates for abstracts & registration.
Tracy Bale (University of Colorado)
Tracy is a neuroscientist and molecular biologist. Her research is centred on the role of parental, prenatal, and early life stress on the developing brain and subsequent behaviour throughout the lifespan. We are looking forward to find out more about her work, which includes assessing sex-specificity, developmental timing, and epigenetic mechanisms involved in programming of the brain, reproductive tract, placenta, and sperm.
Frans de Waal (Emory University, Utrecht University)
Frans is a biologist and primatologist known for his work on the behaviour and social intelligence of primates. He draws on decades of observation and studies of both human and animal behaviour to argue that despite the linkage between gender and biological sex, biology does not automatically support the traditional gender roles in human societies.
Diversity of Life
The overarching theme this year is ‘Diversity of Life’. We will be exploring diversity, from the molecular level, to cells, individual organisms, ecosystems and beyond. It is a broad theme applicable to all of our five tracks that represent the different scale levels within the Life sciences. Our goal: Making sure all life scientists involved in academic and applied research feel at home.
