Lynn van Olst
Neuroimmunologist at University Medical Center Groningen
Lynn van Olst, Ph.D., is a neuroimmunologist investigating how immune mechanisms shape the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease (AD). During her postdoctoral work at Northwestern University, she studied microglial mechanisms involved in amyloid-β clearance following immunization in human AD brains using spatial and single-cell transcriptomics, as well as immune processes underlying amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) associated with immunotherapies. In 2026, she received an NWO Veni fellowship and started her independent research line at the University Medical Center Groningen, where she studies how immune cells influence brain function and how their dysregulation contributes to neurological disease. Her work focuses on immune interactions across the brain–periphery axis, using single-cell and spatial multi-omics approaches to map immune-driven changes in the human brain at cellular and spatial resolution. Lynn completed her Ph.D. cum laude at VU University Amsterdam, where she investigated immune alterations in AD.
