Severin te Lindert
PhD candidate at Wageningen University
Severin te Lindert is a PhD candidate in the Experimental Zoology Group at Wageningen University, where he studies the functional morphology and diversity of cephalopod suckers with the aims of understanding cephalopod evolution and ecology, and developing bio-inspired suction cups. He uses ex vivo characterization techniques, like 3D X-ray imaging (microCT), electron microscopy, and histology, to determine sucker morphology for several different species of squid and cuttlefish. Then, uses biomimetic models to study the mechanical implications of their morphology, specifically how variations in morphology influence attachment performance. He is currently a PhD candidate and would like to pursue a career in academia, studying the functional morphology of animals.
